Horse Riding Holidays Under £3,000: Where Can Your Budget Take You?

A really good riding holiday doesn’t have to cost £3,000, £4,000 or more.

There are riding holidays all over the world where you can spend several days in the saddle, stay somewhere memorable and experience a completely different landscape and culture, without the holiday breaking the £3,000 mark.

The important thing is knowing what you want from your time away.

Do you want long canters through the Spanish countryside? A proper point-to-point journey? A week on safari surrounded by wildlife? A luxury Irish estate? Or something much more remote?

Here are some of our favourite riding holidays currently available for under £3,000 per person.

For a taste of Spain: Segovia Escapes

From €1,880pp | 5 days / 4 nights | 3 days riding

If you want to experience Spain on horseback but don't have a full week to spare, Segovia makes a particularly good short break.

Based around the historic city of Segovia, this ride combines 4–5 hours in the saddle each day with long canters through open countryside, pine forests and medieval villages. You'll ride Andalusian and Hispano-Arab horses, stay in a 4* hotel built into the cloisters of a 15th-century monastery and have plenty of opportunities to experience the food, wine and history of Castilla y León.

It's a good option if you want your riding holiday to feel like more than simply riding from one hotel to the next. There's time to explore Segovia and visit the Royal Site of La Granja alongside the riding.

Best for: riders wanting a shorter Spanish escape with plenty of cantering, culture and comfortable accommodation.

For a proper wilderness experience: Wild Kyrgyzstan

£1,972pp | 10 days / 8 days riding

This is about as far removed from a conventional riding holiday as you can get.

In Kyrgyzstan, you'll spend eight days riding through mountains and valleys, travelling with Kyrgyz horses and staying in a mixture of yurts and tented camps. There are nights under the stars at Son-Kul Lake, time with local host families and days spent travelling through landscapes where horses are still deeply woven into everyday life.

At around four hours riding per day, the focus isn't simply on covering huge distances. You'll catch, tack up and care for your horse as part of the experience, learning something of traditional Kyrgyz horsemanship along the way.

This is very much for riders who are happy to trade luxury for remoteness. There may not be a shower every day, some toilets are a hole in the ground and you'll spend nights camping, but that's rather the point.

Best for: experienced riders looking for something genuinely remote, immersive and far removed from everyday life.

For an African riding safari: Signature Safari, South Africa

From £2,377pp in 2027 | 7 nights

You don't necessarily need a huge safari budget to experience Africa from horseback.

The Signature Safari takes you through wildlife-rich landscapes in South Africa, with up to 5.5 hours riding per day and the chance to encounter giraffes, elephants, zebras, cheetahs and hyenas from the saddle. The riding is fast and the horses include Boerperds, Warmbloods, Appaloosas and Friesians.

Accommodation and all meals are included, with the safari running throughout the year. Even in the highest-priced season, the 2027 rate is currently £2,860pp, still below the £3,000 holiday price mark.

Best for: experienced riders who want a proper riding safari, plenty of time in the saddle and wildlife encounters without moving into the very highest safari price brackets.

For castles, vineyards and French countryside: Loire Valley

€2,490pp | 8 days / 7 nights | 6 days riding

The Loire Valley is proof that a riding holiday doesn't have to choose between good riding and good food, history and beautiful places to stay.

You'll spend six days riding through forests, vineyards, countryside and quiet lanes, with around 3.5–4 hours in the saddle each day. Along the route you'll visit five famous Loire châteaux, including some of the region's most recognisable Renaissance landmarks.

Evenings are spent in 3* and 4* hotels and local guesthouses, with traditional French food and plenty of opportunities to stop in small villages and restaurants along the way.

It's a particularly good choice if you want a riding holiday with plenty to see and do outside the saddle too.

Best for: riders who love horses but also want castles, French food, wine and history to be part of the trip.

For long days in the saddle without leaving Britain: Welsh Prince Trail

£1,692pp | 4 days / 3 nights

You don't need to get on a plane for a serious trail riding holiday.

The Welsh Prince Trail packs 6–7 hours of riding into each day, following historic tracks and bridleways through rivers, hills, valleys and open Welsh countryside. You'll stay in local inns and B&Bs, with your luggage transported between stops.

It's a very different experience from the luxury breaks elsewhere on this list. The emphasis here is on the riding itself, the landscape and the feeling of travelling through the countryside on horseback.

And at £1,692pp, it leaves considerably more room in the budget for getting there and enjoying a few extras along the way.

Best for: riders who want long days in the saddle, varied terrain and a proper point-to-point trail without travelling overseas.

For a true point-to-point journey: Gredos to Salamanca

From €1,685pp | 3 or 5 days

Castle Leslie is for those who like their riding holiday with a little more comfort.

Set on a 1,000-acre private estate in Ireland, the experience combines estate riding with the option to take part in show jumping and cross-country through the Horse Sport package. There are both three- and five-day options, with three hours riding each day.

The five-day packages are currently €2,735pp sharing for 2027, so still comfortably within the £3,000 holiday-price bracket. Accommodation is in The Lodge, with breakfast and dinner included.

It's also one of the more flexible options here: you can choose a quieter estate-riding experience or something more focused on developing your riding skills.

Best for: riders who want beautiful surroundings, comfortable accommodation and the option to mix hacking with jumping and cross-country.

For riding and luxury: Castle Leslie, Ireland

€2,140pp | 7 days / 6 nights | 5 days riding

Deep in the Gredos Mountains, this trail combines long canters, mountain scenery and medieval villages.

You'll ride for between four and seven hours a day through old cattle paths, forests, valleys and farmland, staying in traditional inns and rural hotels along the way. There are also plenty of cultural stops, with castles, churches and historic villages forming part of the journey.

The horses are predominantly PREs, with some Hispano-Arab crosses, and the family-run operator breeds many of its horses themselves.

This is one for riders who want a substantial amount of riding without sacrificing the food, wine and culture that make Spain such a good destination for an equestrian holiday.

Best for: experienced riders who want long canters, mountain landscapes and authentic Spanish food and culture.

For medieval Spain and long canters: Castles of Gredos

€2,240pp | 7 days / 6 nights | 5 days riding

Rather than returning to the same base each evening, this Spanish trail actually takes you somewhere.

Starting in the Sierra de Gredos, you'll ride through mountains, forests and open countryside before finishing in the historic city of Salamanca. Days are between four and seven hours in the saddle, with long canters and outdoor Spanish lunches along the route.

The accommodation changes as you travel, with small rural hotels and inns along the way. And because the horses are largely bred and raised by the family-run operator, there's a particularly personal feel to the experience.

Best for: riders who love the feeling of actually travelling on horseback rather than riding from a fixed base.
