RIDE WILD on this segovia adventure
Overview
Discover the quiet magic of Castilla y León on horseback, where Segovia’s rolling countryside unfolds into pine forests, wide open valleys and storybook medieval towns. This three-day escape threads together exhilarating riding, timeless landscapes and the flavours and traditions that make Spain feel so impossibly vibrant.
You’ll be paired with a delightful Andalusian or Hispano-Arab — beautifully trained, responsive and eager to cover ground. Expect a lively pace, with long, liberating canters across open plains and a fresh rhythm each day as you ride through woodlands, ridgelines and tucked-away farmlands.
When the riding day ends, the experience continues: delicious meals, rich regional wines, charming 4* accommodation and the warmth of true Spanish hospitality.
This is a journey that feels delightfully wild yet deeply rooted in history — following ancient bridle paths once travelled by shepherds, nobles and horsemen long before us. Whether you’re chasing sunshine, culture, adventure or a few soulful days outdoors, this three-day trail blends freedom, food and discovery in exactly the right measures.

Accommodation and food
The horses at Equiberia are the heart of their operation. Their horses are a herd of Andalusian and Hispano - Arab, standing between 15-16hh. They’re well trained, sure footed, good natured, well behaved and a delight to ride. The horses only go on the riding trips meaning they’re very experienced and enjoy being ridden by experienced riders which keeps them lively, willing and sensitive.
Outside of the rides, their horses live as close to nature as possible and enjoy regular breaks. They rest over the winter, with shoes removed and live in 2 herds within a large and naturally sheltered pasture. Equiberia retire their horses at home and they live the same life in the pastures with the rest of the herd. They expect to have a horse sanctuary one day, full of their retired horses living their best life as they more than deserve it.

Itinerary
-
You’ll meet at Madrid Adolfo Suárez International airport (terminal 4 arrivals) at 3pm (so make sure your flight arrives before this with time for delays) for your transfer to Segovia.
Accommodation is in a luxurious 4* hotel, Hotel San Antonio El Real, built into the cloisters of an ancient monastery from the 15th century in the heart of Segovia.
You’ll be transferred to the Equestrian Centre to see the stables and the horses after which you’ll visit the city of Segovia, having a welcome drink in the main square. Dinner will be at your hotel.
-
After meeting your horse, you’ll set out on your morning ride from Segovia to the forest of Valsaín. You’ll follow transhumance trails (trails used for the seasonal migration of livestock) such as Cordel de Santillana and the Cañada Real Soriana (aperitif stop) to get to the source of water from the Roman aqueduct. After a picnic lunch stop, following the Eresma river valleys, you’ll get to the forest of Valsaín. These forests were traditionally hunting reserves for the kinds of Castile and today they are protected nature parks.
You’ll then ride back to Hipica Eresma and be transferred back to the hotel for an early evening pick-up to take you to visit Royal Site of La Granja. After you visit the Royal Gardens, you’ll have dinner at La Granja and be transferred back to the hotel.
-
You’ll depart from Hípica Eresma towards La Granja de San Ildefonso through Palazuelos de Eresma, crossing the Eresma River at the beautiful lake reservoir of El Ponton. Riding alongside the waters of the lake, you’ll get to the Polo field of La Granja and enjoy an aperitif stop. Riding to the pine forests on the hillside of the mountains around La Granja, you’ll see magnificent views of the gardens and the Royal Palace.
You’ll have a picnic for lunch at the Tejera del Cambrones farm and then ride back to the stables along the Western side of the Ponton lake. You’ll be transferred to hotel San Antonio El Real and have dinner at the hotel.
-
Following the Eresma river canyon and the bird sanctuary at the Revenga lake, you’ll get to the village Hontoria for an aperitivo stop. After some exhilarating canters through the Tejadilla river, around the Cerrogordo hills, you’ll enjoy the spectacular views of the Cathedral of Segovia. After lunch, following the Clamores river’s high valleys, the ride will reach a climax with breathtaking views of the Alcazar of Segovia and the old historic town.
Descending towards the meadows of San Marcos where the rivers Eresma and Clamores meet, you’ll get to see the 13th century church of the Veracruz that belongs to the Order of Malta stands. You’ll then have lunch with fantastic views of the Segovia skyline and then ride back to Hipica Eresma along the river Eresma green trails where the ride ends.
-
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Madrid, arriving there about 12pm. All riders will be transferred at the same time so if any rider needs to arrive in Madrid prior to noon, all riders will depart earlier (or an alternative transfer can be arranged at an extra cost).

About Segovia
Segovia is a historic city northwest of Madrid, in central Spain's Castile and León region. With towers, Romanesque churches, squares, mansions, Renaissance palaces, gardens and more, Segovia holds almost an endless list of places to visit. One monument predates everything, and that’s the spectacular Roman aqueduct - an engineering achievement that dates back almost 2000 years.
A great way to explore Segovia is through its small and full of character streets which offer a glimpse into the history of Spain. Over the centuries, various civilisations have left an artistic mark on the city that is difficult to find elsewhere. Many of the civic and religious buildings were built during the Middle Ages, an example being the Cathedral which was the last gothic building constructed in Spain.
Segovia is a city that holds so much history and is a wonder to explore, a destination that can’t be missed and one made extra special by travelling the surrounding areas on horseback.
weather & climate
Segovia in Spain has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Summer daytime temperatures typically range from 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F), while winter days are usually between 3°C and 10°C (37°F to 50°F), with nights often dropping below freezing. Spring and autumn are generally mild and pleasant, with moderate temperatures and relatively low rainfall.
your guides
The team at Equiberia will be your hosts and guides during your trip. Equiberia was started in 1996 by Maria Elena Dendaluce out of a dream to create special riding holidays that reflected her love for horses, passion for Spain and joy of sharing both of those with riders from around the world. Maria said: “Every time I went on a riding holiday, I felt very strongly that that experience brought out the best in me, I felt alive and connected with the horses, the nature, and the people. I felt that there was another life waiting for me” and at Wild Mane, we couldn’t agree more.
Outside of providing unforgettable riding holidays on beautiful horses, it’s the hospitality, attention to detail and professionalism of the Equiberia team that sets them apart. Every team member is dedicated to giving you the best holiday possible and everyone shares Maria’s passion for horses and Spain.
The horses at Equiberia are a herd of Andalusian and Hispano Arab horses who are well trained, sure-footed, good-natured and an all round delight to ride. The team try to create the perfect marriage between horse and rider and there’s no doubt you’ll fall in love with your match.
